Can an object have zero velocity and still be accelerating?

Answered by Dr. Naeem Raza

Yes, it is possible. At the highest point of its trajectory, an object thrown vertically upwards momentarily stops, so its instantaneous velocity is zero. However, the acceleration due to gravity is still acting downwards, causing a constant acceleration of approximately 9.8 m/s² (or 10 m/s² for simplified calculations) even at that instant.
